Branches

When you view a tree from afar and only notice its trunk, you would think that that tree is just small but when you view it from beneath, and notice its branches as they embrace the sky, you would eventually tell that the tree is big and it has grown in its years of stay on land. These branches are the ones that hold the fruits and flowers of the tree. They are the ones that serve as the shade of those who seek shade. When I asked my sister, what are the parts of a tree, she enumerated them--"Leaves! Roots! Trunk! Fruits! Flowers! Branches!". She mentioned the branches last, which if I were to enumerate the parts, I would also mention it last. With that, I've realized something.

Last January 24 and 25, Infant Jesus Academy Marikina had their field demonstration. I, being a part of IJA Marikina, is forced to dance. It was normal for me. Every other year, we would practice a dance with the whole batch and perform it on a Saturday and Sunday, in front of family and friends. It was fun but it was ordinary for me. Even if I'm graduating and this would never happen again in the college years I'm facing, I can't feel a single spark of thrill in my nerves. So I thought, maybe I need to go out of these 4 walls of IJA Marikina so that I will go back here with a new insight on things.

Days after, a friend of mine from one of IJA's branches, Infant Jesus Academy Antipolo, invited me to view their version of the Field Demonstration. I said yes immediately. I want to see that because that is something new. I waited impatiently for that day to come and finally, when I went there, the festivity and joy is in the air and the school is like I've never seen it before. Honestly, I've never seen the school for long but still, it was not the same.

That was February 15. I was actually reluctant in talking to anyone. First, I'm a stranger to them. Second, I only know a few people and I don't know how other people will react to my presence. Third, I'm alone. But I managed, with courage, and help from my friends of course. I met IJA Antipolo's family council. Boy, were they kind. They warmly welcomed me, offered me a seat so that I can view and take pictures of the event with ease and wow! Their greetings were very heart-warming.

Another that I've noticed before the program started was the terrain. I had always admired IJA Antipolo's terrain. They have a lush environment unlike IJA Marikina whose every ground is semented. There, they have trees, and the ground, and the amazing scenery. It was breath-taking.

The emcee told the audience that we are about to start. I was jumpy, excited,I don't know why.

Then the performances took place. I was utterlessly impressed. I sat there viewing the performances and for the first time, in a long time, I knew why IJA holds these events every other year.

I watched as the student there performed. I watched the smiles on their faces and how they seem to be enjoying every minute of the dance. Not only did I watch that. I also watched the bright faces of the parents beside me (the members of the family council) which beamed more with delight as they watched their children grace the dance floor. This I witnessed in the first round of performances.

In the second round, I opted to go upstairs and have a more vast view of the performers. Since there wasn't a lot of people upstairs, I've only noted the beauty of the performances. The very purpose of having the field demo is before my eyes: to see the beauty of dances from different lands. Viewing all these dances, now, in a simple place like this, makes me appreciate the art more and I wouldn't have to go places just to know that the people from this country dance these dances. It was here, all here.

As I wasn't part of the audience in IJA Marikina, I wasn't able to appreciate the field demo that much. But when I got to be a part of the audience in IJA Antipolo, I felt more for the performances and the purpose of the event. I'm glad that I've been there last February 15.

I continue to try and keep updated with the events my friends from Antipolo are having. I feel like I need to know, because their invitation was my key to realizing and appreciating the littlest stuff I thought ordinary and insignificant. With that, I thank them and wish I could spend more time with them in the future.

I would also like to thank their principal for the support she gave her students and to the family council who has been so kind and welcoming to me.

I wish more students from Marikina will bridge out to the students in Antipolo. Maybe we can bridge out to the students in Kalibo as well. When we all connect, that's the time we can say that IJA will is this big family of excellent students.

Now I notice the branches. They came from one trunk. Apart, they are only sticks, but together, they hold the leaves, the flowers, and the fruits. It is like IJA. We all came from one root, Mrs. Consolacion F. Mallonga, and we share the same trunk, the school's name. If we, the branches, connect, then we will be able to blossom flowers, bear fruit and provide shade. In other words, we will be more productive if we are unified and work as one towards the schools' improvement and presentation to the world. Like a tree, with more branches, it is bigger, prettier and stronger.
